Because Ricky won the banjo award last year Cat And The Moon got a chance to play at the Freshgrass Festival. He was awarded a slot on the main stage and a few pop up sets and as you can see we turned some heads. We had a few pre release albums for our new fans and had an unforgettable time playing there. Kathleen's, Ricky's and Eamon's parents made it all the way out there and were in tears seeing their babies play. Bless their little hearts!
"Moonrise" from Cat and The Moon's debut album. Featuring virtuosic musicianship and masterful improvisation, Cat and The Moon offers a unique interpretation of traditional bluegrass and Celtic music through bold and original compositions that showcase the true range of their eclecticism and talent. Coming out on October 1st.
Festival season has begun! We were invited by the Irish Cultural Center of New England to perform at the Boston Irish Music Festival where Kathleen Parks' biggest inspiration, Eileen Ivers, was playing the headlining slot. After some hardball negotiation we accepted and played the honorable 11am set. Also the illustrious and incandescent Sean Smith wrote an article about the festival and gave us the headlining photo. Read that here. Here are some photo highlights: (Photos by Sean Smith) After a short trip to California, we had to make another festival appearance but with a challenge. Charles and Kathleen were out of town! Boston, being the amazing musical city it is, gave us two very strong options for substitute players. Rob Flax and Adam Moore showed up prepared, we had one rehearsal and played on a huge festival stage that faithful afternoon. Here are some photos:
More that 100 friends and fans of Celtic music gathered in WGBH’s Fraser Performance Studio for the first-ever A Celtic Sojourn live broadcast on 89.7 WGBH Radio with host Brian O’Donovan.

It was a pretty cool chain of events leading up to the residency. First Cat and The Moon had an explosive headlining set at Club Passim's Boston Celtic Music Festival. From there we were approached by Heptunes Concerts to play dates at some of Boston's high class clubs such as The Beehive and The Beat Hotel. At one of The Beat Hotel shows it just so happened that the voice WGBH's A Celtic Sojourn's and the owner of The Burren were in the house. They enjoyed the performance so much that we were asked to play on A Celtic Sojourn on May 10th and to play The Backroom at The Burren the following week! As you could imagine,we were throughly flattered. At the Backroom, we invited step dancers and guest musicians to join us on stage and the crowd exploded with enthusiasm! That was by far the most fun show we've ever played! The Burren and it's staff then extended a kind offer for us to play The Frontroom weekly. Cat and The Moon is very honored play this residency and we hope to see you there! Hello Cosmic Kittens! We were lucky enough to have been selected to appear on a public broadcasting station's show Live From Center Stage. Check out the videos! |
