Charles Berthoud

Picture
Charles Berthoud is a bass player who brings joy and positive energy into everything he plays. Growing up in London, UK, his life has bestowed a wide range of influences, including rock, funk, classical, jazz and bluegrass, upon him. It is no wonder, then, that every artist he plays with comments that his style is very “unique”, or sounds like “two basses” or “a guitar”. As well as being able to hold a rock-solid groove, he is able to play melodically, fill out harmonies and play two lines simultaneously using contemporary techniques such as tapping, slap and harmonics. Cat and the Moon, being the experimental and fun-loving band they are, were a perfect match for Charles.

Charles’s collaborations, past and present, include Skyler, The Resemblance, Dirty Blind and many others. He has also performed with Michael Manring, Joe Hunt, Jim Stinnett and more. Currently, he is enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston. When Charles is not playing bass, he has been known to enjoy activities like squash, swimming, cooking and discussing the mysteries of life.
